ROCHESTER OPEN WATER CHALLENGE JUNE 27, 2009
LAKE ONTARIO
ROCHESTER, NY
($1000 in prize money plus awards)
($200 in Hot Spot money)
Dear Racers,
Thanks to all who participated and all who sponsored this year's race. When we conceived of the race, we considered calling it the Rochester Crapshoot as you never know what you'll get on Lk. Ontario from day to day. In 2008, it was dead flat, but this year, it lived up to its official name "the Challenge". A steady 20mph breeze kicked up 1-2 ft chop with boat wakes adding on top, giving a quartering chop on the first leg and a nice downwind runs on the return.
Reid Hyle (FL) paddling Epic's new V12 smoked the long (9 mile) course in a bit over 1 hour. Jim Mallory (BayCreek Racing) was second, coming in 10 minutes later and Dan Murn (BayCreek Racing) took third. Jason Quagliatta (Rochester) took fourth overall. (Nothing like home turf).
Short course (2.5 mile) winner was Nicole Mallory with Ed Leszek coming in second.
